Christians: theological history
How Christian belief took the shape it has: from a Jewish following of ‘Isa (Jesus), through Paul and the councils that defined the Trinity, to the splits of East and West, Reformation and the churches of today.
The Qur’an teaches that ‘Isa was a servant and messenger of Allah, not His son, and calls the People of the Book back from the Trinity to tawhid (the oneness of Allah) — an-Nisa’ 4:171; al-Ma’idah 5:72–75, 116–117. The events below record how Christian doctrine developed.
