Jews: theological history

How Judaism took the shape it has: from the Torah given to Musa (Moses) and the warnings of the prophets, through exile and the loss of the Temple, to the rabbis’ Talmud, the philosophers, the mystics and today’s movements.

The Qur’an affirms the Torah as revealed guidance and light (al-Ma’idah 5:44) while charging that parts of it were altered and concealed (al-Baqarah 2:75–79; al-Ma’idah 5:13). The events below record how Jewish belief and law developed.
